To register your bike, you will need the serial number from underneath the bottom bracket on your bike. Registration is advantageous in that it provides us with a way to give local police ownership information on recovered stolen bikes. It is also useful in warranty- and service-related situations.


Note: A serial number does not indicate the size, model, or year of a bicycle. We will not be able to tell you this information with only the serial number. If you do not know the model and year of your bicycle, you will need to find it manually via the photos in the online archive.

Where can I find my bike's serial number? Almost all of our serial numbers are located on the bottom bracket shell of the frame. Some newer models will have a non-removable sticker on the down tube near the bottom bracket. Specialized serial numbers typically start with the prefix "WSBC," "WUD," "STT," or "STE." If you don't know where the bottom bracket shell of the bike is, simply turn the bike upside-down and the bottom bracket is the part of the frame that the cranks run through. You will see the serial number stamped into the frame down there.


EN numbers - European Standards (EN) are documents that have been ratified by one of the 3 European Standards Organizations, CEN, CENELEC, or ETSI. These are not serial numbers and are not unique to individual bikes.


Rear triangle serial numbers - Many full-suspension mountain bikes will have serial numbers on the rear triangle. These serial numbers often do not match the true serial number, which will be located on the front triangle.

The first five digits with the serial number above are the date the bike was made. The first and the fifth digits together represent the year the bicycle was manufactured. So we will find that the manufacturing year was 1986.


Take H89071071 as a specific example for you to understand. The number 89 after the letter H is this bike manufactured by Haro in 1989. 07 is the month that the product was made. The last four letters, 1071, represent the model number.


Some of the initials that you might come across at the beginning of the bike serial number are MBG, BPG, MPS, and MAJ. MBG and BPG, as mentioned above, represent two models, respectively Mirra Pro Blammo and Backtrail Pro. MPS is the Mirra Pro S351 model. MAJ stands for Mirra 540 Air model series.


The majority of bicycle serial numbers will be stamped at the bottom bracket. To find the serial number, flip your bike upside down, then find the connection position between the two cranks pedals. You will locate the serial number there.


Every bike has its serial number printed on it by the manufacturer. However, the stamping position may differ depending on the brand. You should check some places like the bottom bracket, head tube, or dropout to read the serial number.
